Assessed negotiation nr 2

This week it was time for the second and final assessed negotiation. This time we negotiated with a group which made it more demanding but at the same time more fun than the one on one negotiation. We were divided into two groups in which we prepared a common strategy for our company and then we split again into two smaller groups in which we carried out the actual negotiation.

Our strategy was to get full points from the delivery part (delivery to multiple destinations) and then get most of the rest of the points from the bonus section since it seemed that it would be much easier than negotiating about price for example. While preparing for the negotiation we came up with multiple  great ideas about the other beneficial deals such as offering free Christmas gifts and  free frozen foods to our partner company. In my opinion we really managed to think out of the box!

The negotiation itself started with us presenting our key points and things we wanted the most. Quite soon we realized that our "opponent" team was pretty strictly against most of our proposals and at first they were a bit reluctant to ease on their own demands. However after a short timeout both parties saw that in order to move forward with the negotiation we both need to ease up a bit. After this realization the negotiation started to flow a bit more smoothly and we started to understand each other better. In the end we found a common ground where both parties were happy and satisfied.

In my opinion our team worked well together. We proceeded according to our strategy and listened to each other at the same time giving everyone chance to contribute to the discussion. Our roles played out as planned and everyone took responsibility of their own role. I am also pleased with my own performance since I managed to show my understanding towards the other team's needs but at the same time sticking with our own important goals. Even though we had some difficulties in the beginning the atmosphere was very comfortable all the way which made it easy to discuss the issues.

All in all this negotiation simulation was very well planned and the pointing system really encouraged to do well in the negotiation. The subject was also very professional which made it even more interesting since sales negotiation like this take place all the time in the business world.
