Expanding the pie
In the beginning of the lesson Mia showed us these different communications patterns around the world. I had never come across these before but I found them super interesting. First it was kind of hard to understand what did all the signs and shapes in the picture stood for but when you studied enough of them you started to realize that those pictures actually made sense. What was really surprising that I could really agree with most of the patterns and the Finnish pattern really made me laugh. Mostly because I could definitely relate to that and in my opinion the picture manages to capture the Finnish way of negotiating.
One of the tasks in this week lesson was to negotiate our evaluating criteria for the next week's assessed group negotiation. Beforehand I thought that we would manage it easily since we now have plenty of experience on group negotiation but it turned out that I was wrong. The problem was more about the lack of inspiration than the fact that we didn't reach an agreement. It was surprisingly hard to come up with decent and good criteria and things we should evaluate. How do you evaluate team play from outside? Is comment box better than evaluating in scale 1-5? However we did made it in the end and next week will show how did we do.
As a homework we got this task to think about what things we should bare in mind in our final assessed negotiation. As I have mentioned before in my blog I have a tendency of being a bit too kind and usually give up too easily. How to be respectful and still stand behind your own needs at the same time? That is something I want to work on in the next week's negotiation. I also want to learn to express my feelings better during the negotiation since that helps the other party to understand my needs better. I have always been a good listener and next week listening plays an important role in the negotiation because you have to listen to the other party as well as your own team mates. I am confident that I will do well in that part at least.
Next week is all about team work, can wait!

Hey, I think you successfully reached your defined goals in the second assessed negotiation. You and your team expressed your feelings and did not give up easily! Great job!
